Pueblo -- Professor James Humes, the Ryals Professor of Language and
Leadership at the University of Southern Colorado, will be the featured speaker
at the Hispanic Community Leadership Breakfast at Our Lady of the Meadows
Church, 23 Starling Dr., on Nov. 30, at 8:30 a.m.
The title of his motivational talk is, "Never, Never, Never, Give Up."
These were the words Prime Minister Winston Churchill delivered in 1940 to the
high school that Humes had attended as a boy. Humes, who in his talk assumes the
character of Churchill, tells how Churchill was told as a boy by his parents and
high school principal that he was "stupid" and that he would never
make anything of himself.
Humes has met Churchill and has written five books about him. Humes also wrote
for five U.S. Presidents, including Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and Bush.
James Humes has achieved both a diverse and distinguishing career as a lawyer,
legislator, author, diplomat, scholar, and Presidential speechwriter. One of
America's most popular speakers, Humes has addressed audiences in 50 states and
23 countries. He joined USC in 1994.
