Premier Performance of the Southern Colorado Wind Symphony
Pueblo -- The University of Southern Colorado Department of Music will
present the premier performance of the newly organized Southern Colorado Wind
Symphony on Sunday, Nov. 17. The free concert begins at 3 p.m. in Hoag Recital
Hall on the USC campus.
The symphonic band is comprised of university students, music educators from the
area, qualified high school instrumentalists, and community members. It is the
first formally organized band at the university in more than 10 years.
The performance will feature a variety of works by Vaughn Williams, Gustav Holst
and others who were pioneers in composing for the wind band. The program also
will include Bernstein's Overture to Candide and selections from The Music Man.
"I'm hoping to spark further interest on the part of other community
members, music educators, and students, and help to provide a functioning
concert band for community and civic functions year round as well as an
educational and musical opportunity for these individuals," said Mark
Hudson, chair of the USC Department of Music and organizer and conductor of the
ensemble.
