University of Southern Colorado employees recognized
Pueblo -- Three University of Southern Colorado classified staff members
received special recognition at a recent reception in honor of Outstanding
Classified Employees for 2002-2003.
The first place winner of the Outstanding Classified Employee for 2002-2003, who
received $550, was Robert Tucker, a state services assistant in the Office of
Human Resources and Affirmative Action. Tucker was instrumental in the
implementation of the Pay for Performance System for classified employees. His
supervisor, Gloria Trujillo-Sanchez, commends Robert as a champion of causes for
all employees. "He is interested in employee equity, the appraisal process,
and employee benefits," she said, "and he works diligently to improve
the lives of employees and their families."
Geraldine Trujillo-Martinez, a program assistant in the Purchasing Office,
received the second-place award of $350. According to Tom Rolater, director of
purchasing, Geraldine has shown extraordinary efforts this year maintaining and
accurately accounting for all construction and maintenance projects.
"Because of Geraldine's knowledge of construction accounting, the
university was able to save funds by legally purchasing equipment and furniture
with construction funds," said Rolater.
Third place was presented to Jon Valdez, program assistant in the Admissions
Office, with an award of $275. Valdez came to USC in 1990. During his
employment, he has served on numerous committees and boards, most recently the
General Education Board, Graduate Board and the NCAA Compliance Team. He works
closely with the Office of Institutional Research and Analysis to ensure that
student records are current and accurate, and is active with the Orientation
program.
