Central City Opera to perform at the University
of Southern Colorado
Pueblo -- Members of the Central City Opera will provide instruction and
entertainment later this month at the University of Southern Colorado.
The workshop and performance, featuring pianist Steven Kraut, will begin at 1
p.m. on October 17 in Hoag Recital Hall. Kraut also serves as Stage and Tour
Manager and Production Coordinator for Central City Opera.
Founded in 1932, Central City Opera is Colorado's oldest professional performing
arts organization. Each summer, a talented cast performs three operas in the
intimate Central City Opera House, built in 1878 in an historic moutain mining
town 40 miles west of Denver.
The one-hour performance will include scenes from Douglas Moore's "The
Ballad of Baby Doe," Rossini's "The Italian Girl in Algiers,"
Enrique Granado's "Goyescas" (in Spanish), and Leoncavallo's "I
Pagliacci," as well as other arias and scenes.
Kraut will present a Master Class from 2 - 4 p.m., featuring six students from
the University's music program, followed by a question and answer period.
Sponsored by the USC Department of Music, the event is free and open to the
public.
