Women's Studies Program Hosts Workshop, Open House
Pueblo -- The Women's Studies Program at the University of Southern
Colorado will host two special events on Oct.14 and 15 to kickoff a series of
programs for the 2002-2003 academic year.
The annual fall open house on Mon., Oct. 14 will feature Dr. Bonnie J. Shulman,
mathematical physicist, feminist scientist, and project leader of the Women and
Scientific Literacy Project at Bates College in Maine.
Shulman's general audience address, "Mathematics and the Moral Sciences:
The Value of Value-Free Mathematics," is scheduled from 4-5 p.m. in 103
Physics-Math. Other open house activities will take place between 3:30 and 5:30
p.m. in the West Foyer of the Physics-Math Bldg.
On Tues., Oct. 15, Shulman will lead an interactive program titled
"Feminists and Scientists: An Interdisciplinary Workshop" from 4-6
p.m. in 112 Physics-Math. Due to limited seating, individuals should register
for the workshop with Dr. Janet Barnett at 549-2540.
An associate professor of mathematics, Shulman also is a founding member of the
Calculus Consortium, a national group working toward calculus reform and a
scholar devoted to publications on mathematics, physics, history and philosophy
of science, and feminist critiques of mathematics.
Shulman's visit is sponsored by the USC Women's Studies Program, and
co-sponsored by the College of Science and Mathematics, the College of
Humanities and Social Sciences, and the USC Honors Program.
