University of
Southern Colorado Alumni Board names six
Pueblo, Colo. -- Six University of Southern Colorado alumni, all
residents of Pueblo, have been named to the Alumni Association Board of
Directors.
Janet Baer, a market and communications administrator for
the U.S. Space Foundation in Colorado Springs, graduated from USC in 1990 with a
degree in Mass Communications and Speech Communications. She is also active with
HARP and the Ecumenical Church of Pueblo West.
Sharon Hatton-Montoya, interim director of Student
Academic Services at USC, graduated in 1989 with a degree in English and
Secondary Education and also received her Master's degree in Educational
Leadership. She serves on the Enrollment Management Council at USC and the
Writing Committee for Pueblo School District 60.
Rochelle Kelly DeVargas is the development officer for El
Pueblo Boys' and Girls' Ranch. She graduated from USC in 1984 with a degree in
Mass Communications and has more than 12 years of marketing and fundraising
experience working with children's charities. She also is active with Junior
League and 4-H.
Richard Joyce, USC associate professor of Mass
Communications, is the director of the News/Editorial sequence. Richard
graduated from USC in 1981 with a degree in mass communications. In addition to
having received numerous awards for writing, Richard is also a contributing
writer to The Pueblo Business Journal, a member of Southern Colorado Press Club,
and an amateur photographer.
Betty J. Martinez is an Owner and a Broker with Betty
Martinez Realtors and American Mortgage. She received her degrees from USC in
1985 and 1987 in criminology and social work, respectively. Betty is also a
board member with Boys' and Girls' Club, Pueblo Child Advocacy Center and Mi
Casa Resource Center.
Ofelia Morales is currently the associate director of Student Financial Services
at USC. She was the first in her family to graduate high school and college, and
received her social work and psychology degrees in 1994 from USC. She is
currently pursuing her MBA at USC..
Each board member will begin their term October 1, 2002
and their terms will expire June 30, 2005.
