USC announces new principal for Pueblo School for
Arts and Sciences
Pueblo, Colo. -- Cheryl Gomez, Coordinator of Secondary Programs for
Pueblo School District 70, has been named principal of the Pueblo School for
Arts and Sciences, whose charter is held by the University of Southern Colorado.
USC Provost Barbara Montgomery announced that Gomez would begin her duties
Monday, Sept. 23.
"Ms. Gomez brings a wealth of experience and
expertise to the position," said Montgomery. "We are very pleased that
she has accepted our offer on a full-time basis."
Among her strengths, Gomez has expertise and experience in
teacher evaluation, curriculum development, curriculum alignment, implementation
of the Colorado Literacy Act at the Secondary Level, and the development of
reading and writing state assessment frameworks.
The University of Southern Colorado and Pueblo School
District 60 hold the charter for PSAS, whose mission is to prepare and deliver
an integrated well balanced K-8 curriculum, anchored in the arts and in harmony
with the sciences. Founded in 1993 on Mortimer Adler's Paideia Principals, PSAS
has a current enrollment of 358 students and depends on a strong
community/school partnership.
Gomez is a USC graduate who has completed a K - 12
Principal License and Vocational Directors Credentials. She is currently
pursuing a graduate degree in community college leadership at Colorado State
University. She also has worked as a teacher and administrative intern for
School District 60.
