USC announces interim
director of Greenway and Nature Center
Pueblo, Colo. -- The University of Southern Colorado has announced the
appointment of a former assistant director for the Greenway and Nature Center (GNC)
to the post of interim director.
Kristina Proctor, dean of College of Science and
Mathematic announced that Marge Vorndam, a Title 3 Academic Web Page Developer
at USC, will begin her duties as interim director at the GNC on Sept. 16.
Vorndam, who served as assistant director of the nature
center from 1995-2000, will replace Tim Sandsmark, who resigned to take a
similar post at Table Mountain Nature Center in Golden, Colo.
"I have the utmost confidence in Ms. Vorndam and her
ability to bring to the position an abundance of knowledge, experience and
motivation to lead the GNC," said Proctor.
"Ms. Vorndam brings to the position many years of
experience in affiliation with the GNC," said Proctor, "including its
educational programming, membership initiatives, fund raising events, and
successful grant solicitation."
Proctor said that a search to fill the permanent GNC
Director's position will be initiated soon.
Vorndam holds a master's degree in environmental science
from the University of Montana, and a long list of accomplishments and volunteer
work in the area of environmental conservation planning, advocacy and
compliance.
USC assumed management responsibilities for the Pueblo
Greenway and Nature Center in 1993. At that time, the goals of the GNC's mission
were expanded to include a heightened emphasis on environmental education;
exhibit development, and creation of compatible research opportunities in
concert with the university's mission and academic programs.
