USC radio station Rev 89 ranks first in nation
and market
Pueblo, Colo. -- The University of Southern Colorado student-run radio
station KTSC-FM, known as Rev 89, is ranked first in the nation, according to
Sam Lovato, USC professional-in-residence and REV 89 station manager. The
station competes against 400 other college, religious, NPR, and non-commercial
radio stations.
Lovato recently released the data to university officials citing its
significance in validating the quality of the radio program that is centered in
the Mass Communications Department and Center for New Media.
"REV 89 also is first in the Pueblo market competing against all commercial
radio stations, which is significant because REV 89 is a student-driven station
with a minimal budget and no ability to generate advertising revenue," said
Lovato.
"The station's target audience is ages 12-34, with a particularly loyal
following among young Pueblo teenagers," Lovato added.
The 12-week ratings period covered March 28 through June 19, 2002. More than 35
Mass Communications majors are currently on air at the 10,000-watt
station.
The station is one emphasis area in the USC Mass Communications Department and
Center for New Media. Other areas include new media, television production,
advertising, journalism and public relations.
The University of Southern Colorado is a regional,
comprehensive university emphasizing professional, career-oriented and applied
programs. Displaying excellence in teaching, celebrating diversity, and engaging
in service and outreach, USC is distinguished by access, opportunity and the
overall quality of services provided to its students.
