CONVOCATION ACTIVITIES KICK OFF NEW SCHOOL YEAR AT USC

Pueblo, Colo. -- Faculty, staff and administrators at the University of Southern Colorado will celebrate the start of the fall 2002 school year with traditional Convocation Week activities beginning on Monday (Aug 19).

President Ronald Applbaum, who joined USC on July 1, will deliver the State of the University Address at 8:30 a.m. in the Occhiato Center Central and East Ballrooms. His address “Creating a New Path to Excellence: An Institution in Transformation,” will outline the journey the institution will take during its transformation to a new, CSU-Pueblo, and its new mission as a regional, comprehensive institution.

The week’s activities, including informative presentations about the university’s budget, enrollment, community involvement, and strategic plan, as well as a workshop on appreciating diversity.

An awards ceremony in the OUC Central and East Ballroom will recognize individuals for their commitment to the university. Among those honored will be Music Professor James Duncan, who joined the University in 1958 and will celebrate 45 years of service. The Service Awards Ceremony will take place from 1:15 until 2:30 p.m.

A picnic for University personnel and their families is scheduled from 5 until 7 p.m. at the OUC South Patio and the Hearthwell Lounge.

Open registration for USC classes takes place on Friday, August 23 and classes begin Monday, August 26 in the Occhiato University Center. Continuing USC students may register online through the student portal at www.uscolo.edu
