| USC SUMMER PROGRAM PREPARES NEW STUDENTS
FOR COLLEGE Pueblo, Colo. - Students entering college this fall who plan to major in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics may be eligible for a one-week summer bridge program at the University of Southern Colorado, from Sunday, July 28 through Friday, August 2. To prepare for a successful transition to college life, the students will live in the residence hall, take a mini-math class, learn about academic success, and build a support network. Cost for the program is $50, which covers housing, food, tuition, and course materials. Applicants should have graduated from high school prior to August 1, 2002, be African American, Hispanic American, or Native American, plan to major in science, mathematics, engineering, or technology, and have a high school grade-point average of at least 2.20. Non-minority students are also encouraged to apply. Depending on the number of applicants, some applicants not meeting all the criteria may be accepted. Students who complete the program will receive one unit of academic credit and will have priority consideration for $700 stipends from the Colorado Alliance for Minority Participation for the 2002-2003 academic year.
