Pueblo, Colo. - University of Southern
Colorado Provost Barbara Montgomery today announced USC's Outstanding Faculty
Members for 2002.
Janet Barnet, associate professor of mathematics, was
selected from the College of Science and Mathematics. "Dr. Barnett is the
complete professor, said CSM Dean Bud Allen, "Her evaluations are most
frequently superior in teaching, scholarly activities and service."
John Borton, professor of computer information systems,
was named Outstanding Faculty member from the College of Education, Engineering
and Professional Studies. Dean Hector Carrasco cited Borton's emphasis on
student involvement, teaching effectiveness, technology in the classroom, and
successful grant applications.
Rhonda Gonzales, assistant professor of library services,
was selected from the University Library. Among her other accomplishments,
Interim Dean Tony Moffeit noted the creation of an extensive online tutorial
that introduces students to the online library catalog, the online journal
database and the location of Internet web sites.
Victoria Hansen, associate professor of art, was selected
for the honor from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. According to
CHASS Dean Russ Meyer, Professor Hansen has distinguished herself both as an
excellent teacher in the classroom and as an artist with a national reputation
for excellence. Her work as a potter has received wide recognition in the
artistic community.
Charles Zeis, associate professor of business
administration, is the Outstanding Faculty Member from the Hasan School of
Business. Zeis was recommended by the School's Dean, Rex Fuller, for his
inclusion of applied research into his teaching, his notable scholarly
activities and his leadership role in the school's assessment efforts.
Outstanding Faculty Members will be recognized at the
annual University Excellence Awards Dinner on April 27, and will be presented
with the traditional USC Owl plaque.
