Pueblo, Colo. - University of Southern Colorado Interim President Robert
Glennen announced today that Cora Z. Hedstrom has accepted the position of
Assistant to the President for External Affairs. The appointment has the
approval of incoming President Ronald Applbaum.
Hedstrom will join USC July 1 and will be responsible for
overseeing the departments of Development, Alumni Relations, Communication
Services and Publications, Community Relations and Marketing, and for working
cooperatively with the USC Foundation in fundraising.
"We are pleased that Ms. Hedstrom has accepted our
offer and has agreed to join the University," said Glennen. "Her
extensive experience in external affairs is a considerable asset.
Hedstrom, who served as director of University Relations
at Emporia State University from 1991 until 1999, is currently a private
consultant in marketing, development and strategic planning.
In 2001, she served as director of educational
programming, communications and recognition for the National Teachers Hall of
Fame, and was an instructor in the Department of Communications and Theatre Arts
at ESU in 2000-2001. She was a staff reporter for the Emporia Gazette, Emporia,
Kansas, from 1985 until 1987.
Hedstrom is completing her doctorate in Educational Policy
and Leadership at the University of Kansas, Lawrence. Her doctoral dissertation,
in progress, is Strategic University Name Change and its Effect on Brand Equity.
She earned her master of arts and her bachelor's degree in English from ESU,
Emporia.
