Pueblo, Colo. - University of Southern Colorado President Robert Glennen
has been asked to join the Board of Advisors for the Rudy Ruettiger Foundation.
The foundation was established by Daniel "Rudy"
Ruettiger who overcame great personal odds to attend Notre Dame and play
football for the Fighting Irish. In the last 27 seconds of the only play in the
only game of his college football career, Ruettiger sacked the quarterback and
is the only player in the school's history to be carried off the field on his
teammates' shoulders. His life story was captured by the 1993 film, RUDY. Today,
Ruettiger is a popular motivational speaker.
Glennen, who earned his doctorate and served on the
faculty at Notre Dame, said he was impressed by Ruettiger's story and felt
honored to serve on the foundation's board. He said he would be attending a
board meeting in late April.
The mission of the Rudy Foundation is to help children
build self-esteem, reach their full potential, and become positive role models
for other children and families across the nation. The Rudy Foundation develops
and supports programs that positively impact the lives of children cognitively,
emotionally, physically and spiritually.
