AutoComplete, Your Security & Privacy

AutoComplete is a feature that stores information (data) you type in Web forms and the list of Web sites you visit on your computer. AutoComplete allows users to complete a form by suggesting possible matches.

Although AutoComplete makes it easier to fill in forms, unfortunately, this also can seriously compromise your security and privacy. Anyone who has access to your computer can view the information you have entered in Web forms and the list of Web sites you have visited. Also various malicious software, and viruses, can steal your AutoComplete data. Your name, date of birth, social security number, credit card numbers, passwords and all other information entered in Web forms, when stored as AutoComplete data may be stolen.

An individual with your AutoComplete data  then could use it to steal your identity. For more information regarding Identity Theft, please visit the following government Web sites:

PLEASE NOTE:
Information Technology Services (ITS) recommends turning off/disabling AutoComplete for all programs. By following these instructions, your personal information (
name, date of birth, social security number, credit card numbers, passwords) saved as AutoComplete data will be deleted. In addition please view the University's password policy.
