"The capacity now exists for faculty to use technology in various
ways (for advising, research and writing scholarly pieces, creating
course outlines, and communicating with students outside class. What
is missing..., is the opportunity for faculty to use video and computer
technology in the way it considers most crucial to their roles as
educators, as a tool of classroom instruction. Since the primary purpose
of the university is to educate students, faculty believe that pedagogical
uses of technology should receive the highest priority. Research resources
across disciplines are now found increasingly via the Web and Internet.
Teachers need to be able to guide students as they learn to do this
research."
