Services:
The Student Recreation Center operates year round and
offers trips, educational seminars, sporting events, programs and has an
equipment rental program. The types of activities include intramural sports, the
indoor climbing wall, challenge course and outdoor program trips that range from
one-day educational studies trips to extended programs and trips. All our
programs are designed to provide recreational opportunities to be available to the
Colorado State University – Pueblo community.
The majority of Colorado State University–Pueblo
students are low to middle income and the median age is
twenty-six. Many students have not been exposed to the natural environment of
Southern Colorado, which is due to training, knowledge of opportunities and
finances. The ELC provides these services thus allowing more opportunity to
Colorado State University – Pueblo.
ELC participants are offered a unique
opportunity to attain an exuberant and challenging experience through living,
learning, and leading in the out of doors. The ELC devotes its efforts to
building individual and group confidence, solving problems, promoting social
interaction and teamwork. It creates a culture of people within Colorado State
University - Pueblo who rise over and beyond the challenges facing them.
An
integral component of the ELC program at Colorado State University – Pueblo is
our affiliated Wilderness Education Association (WEA) program. We utilize the
eighteen-point curriculum of WEA in our academic courses as well as a framework
with out recreation adventures. Students who participate in the ELC have the
opportunity to be certified through the Wilderness Education Association as an
outdoor leader. This process requires the student to go on at least five
extended trips, be a Wilderness First Responder, lead at least two trips as a
student leader, and they must take specific outdoor adventure education courses
at CSU-Pueblo.
Being a part of the ELC means living life to its fullest, gaining
a lifetime's worth of education, and most importantly, HAVING FUN!
