Upward Bound is a program that helps young people and adolescents develop the skills and motivation necessary to continue on with higher education. Participants receive tutoring in literature, composition, foreign languages, mathematics, and science. Participants also get involved with cultural events, obtain assistance with college preparation, financial aid, scholarships, and career development. There are currently 681 programs in operation throughout the United States.
There are three components of the Upward Bound Program.

- Academic School Year
- Summer Program
- Bridge Component
All components are free to Upward Bound students.
The Academic School Year Services
The Academic School Year Services is a full academic school year program that students attend to receive assistance with college admissions, financial and scholarship applications. Students will attend skill-building workshops in areas such as study skills, time management, and career exploration.
The Summer Residential Program
The Summer Residential Program is a six week enrichment program for selected Upward Bound students. The program offers academic courses, social and cultural activities.
The Summer Bridge College Preparation Program
The Summer Bridge College Preparation Program is a six week academic program that offers Upward Bound high school graduates an opportunity to earn six college credits. It also prepares students to transition successfully into the full-time college experience.
