PUEBLO – Three years since Colorado State University-Pueblo announced the debut of its new license plates, the University is nearing its 500-plate commitment goal.
Since January of 2011 when CSU-Pueblo license plates became available, 431 alumni, students, faculty, staff, and supporters have chosen to show their Pack Pride as they drive around town, the state, and the nation. The State of Colorado has mandated that CSU-Pueblo have 500 license plates on the roads of Colorado by July 1, 2016 and, in order for the program to continue, must maintain that number on a yearly basis.
Much has changed since then, according to Director of Alumni Relations Tracy Samora. In fact, it’s even easier now to obtain the plates since the $50 donation to the alumni association has been eliminated. Now, Colorado residents simply need to visit the county courthouse or Department of Motor Vehicles in their county, and simply request the CSU-Pueblo license plates. A one-time $50 specialty plate fee still will be assessed by the state, but beyond that, the vehicle owner only is charged the regular taxes and fees each year. Samora also announced a newly revised Alumni Discount Program made possible by an outpouring of support from numerous local merchants. To receive the discounts, alumni must present a valid discount card. Alumni from CSU-Pueblo, University of Southern Colorado, Southern Colorado State College, Southern Colorado Junior College, and Pueblo Junior College are eligible to purchase a discount card for $20 through the CSU-Pueblo Office of Alumni Relations, Occhiato University Center 111; or by contacting Samora at 719-549-2858 or email@example.com
The Alumni Discount card will never expire, and new discounts will be added on a monthly basis and visible on the Alumni website. A complete list of participating merchants may be found at: http://alumni.colostate-pueblo.edu/benefits/Pages/default.aspx
The Alumni Association continues to work with the students who coordinate the student discount program so that all discounts be available to the alumni discount program, essentially rolling over once the student graduates.
