Colorado State University - Pueblo seeks mentors for PROPEL STEM program

PUEBLO The PROPEL (Providing Opportunities to Excel) program at Colorado State University-Pueblo seeks successful community professionals in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields to serve as mentors for its new Advise-Connect-Engage (ACE) STEM Mentorship Program.

The mentors will help current CSU-Pueblo students establish career goals, acquire skills, and network in an effort to increase the University’s retention and graduation rates, especially among underserved populations.

The ACE STEM Program will start Spring 2013 and run through Fall 2013.  Each semester, mentors will work with a group of not more than 12 students and for up to 8 hours (including  4 face-to-face hours and 4 hours of electronic communications).

The ACE STEM program at the PROPEL Center also will help keep STEM students engaged while completing their degrees and upon graduation from CSU-Pueblo. The ACE STEM Program provides students with continuous advising, progress monitoring, and additional networking opportunities.

The ACE STEM Program also will allow the local companies to meet potential future intern and workforce members. Stipends are available for professionals who are selected to participate in the program and will be paid at the end of each academic semester.

For more information on the mentoring program, contact Yaneth Correa, curriculum development specialist with the PROPEL Center, at (719) 549-2517 or yaneth.correa@colostate-pueblo.edu.
