Colorado State University - Pueblo begins bike share program with area businesses

PUEBLO – Colorado State University-Pueblo students, staff, and community members now have access to transportation for short trips or commutes thanks to a new bike share program.  As of November 1, SoCo Blue Bike will provide bicycles as a healthy fun alternative for short trips or commutes to students and community members through a membership with SoCo Blue Bikes. Sundance Bicycles, Angelos Pizza, and CSU-Pueblo’s Outdoor Pursuits program are hosting bicycle stations as part of the program.
According to associate director of recreation Scott Robertshaw, Dane Gomez, owner of Sundance Bicycles, 113 E Abriendo, will service the bikes.  The share system reports all damaged and available bikes at each station. All share bicycles at Sundance will be available to replace any damaged bicycle at another station if necessary or if more bicycles are needed.

Angelo's Pizza, located at 105 E Riverwalk, will also have 10 bicycles available to community members and students.
Individuals interested in participating in the program must sign up at any bicycle share station or sign up on Facebook on the Soco Blue Bikes Page or CSU-Pueblo Outdoor Pursuits page. A credit card and driver’s license or passport are required to participate. The rules are simple:
select a bicycle & helmet that fits you, adjust you’re the seat with the quick release lever (no tools necessary), and hit the road. Participants must return the bike to a share attendant at any bicycle share station within operating hours of that establishment.

Bikes are available from noon- 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the CSU-Pueblo Student Recreation Center and at Sundance Bicycle from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturdays. Angelos bike share program is available from 11 a.m.- 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and Sundays and from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The student cost is $25 for a semester membership or $50 for an annual membership. Individuals also can rent a bicycle for $15 a day. Corporate memberships are available with pricing dependent on the number of corporate members registered. Pricing varies with bicycles selection and duration of rental.

“SoCo Blue Bike eventually hopes to expand to have multiple automated stations throughout Pueblo Colorado and its surrounding areas,” Robertshaw said.  “We have targeted high traffic areas looking to replace the number of cars being used for short trips with bicycles.”
Robertshaw indicated that sponsors for the bicycle sharing stations also will be sought in return for advertising on the bicycles themselves.
