Underdog Pueblo Students Bring their A-Game to State Robotics Competition

PUEBLO – Colorado State University-Pueblo Upward Bound team of students from area high schools will come together to compete in a statewide robotics competition in Denver next month. The national BEST Robotics Project features more than 10,000 participants nationwide each fall. The BEST Award is presented to the team that submits the winning project summary notebook, oral and table presentation, and shows exemplary spirit and sportsmanship. Each team is provided kits of equipment and parts and a set of game rules. They have six weeks to design, build, and test a small Radio/Controlled (R/C) robot that will outperform their competitors.

The 10-member “ThunderBots” team is comprised of local high school students who receive precollege academic support, tutoring, and mentorship from the Upward Bound program. Volunteer engineers and other technical professionals will serve as team mentors who will advise and guide students through the design and construction of their robot in preparation for the BEST Robotics competition to be held on October 27 at Metro State University.

According to Upward Bound Director Dr. Ismana Carney, “We are particularly excited about being involved with BEST Robotics this year competition because it is the first time that a high school team from Pueblo has been accepted into the competition!”

Representatives of the ThunderBots PR and Marketing team are available for presentations to interested community organizations.
