Colorado State University - Pueblo mass comm. faculty, students earn writing awards
PUEBLO – Students and faculty in Colorado State University-Pueblo’s Department of Mass Communications and Center for New Media received regional awards during the Society of Professional Journalists Region IX Spring Conference, held April 13-14 in Denver.
The CSU-Pueblo TODAY magazine summer 2011 issue received a second-place award for Best Student Magazine in the Region 9 Mark of Excellence Awards. The magazine is produced entirely by students in CSU-Pueblo’s mass communications department. The Mark of Excellence Awards honor the best collegiate journalism in the nation. Winners of the four-state Society of Professional Journalists Region IX Top of the Rockies journalism contest, announced April 13 at the Denver Press Club, included two faculty in the mass communications department:
Associate Professor Richard Joyce received a third-place award in personal columns for his work with the Redstone Review. Associate Professor Leticia Steffen received first-, second- and third-place awards in feature writing for stories she wrote for The Pueblo Chieftain. Steffen won one first-place award and one second-place award in features (science) for two installments of a modern-parenting series, and a third-place award for features (education) for a story on "boomerang kids."
