Colorado State University – Pueblo sponsors open house Jan. 23 for SRC expansion
PUEBLO, CO - An open house featuring free use of pool and racquetball courts as well as racquetball/squash demonstrations will held on Monday, January 23 to spotlight an $850,000 expansion to the Student Recreation Center at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
The Student Recreation Center Corridor Expansion project has extended the main eastern corridor to more directly connect with the existing southeast entrance of the H.P.E.R./Massari Arena building, including the swimming pool. The project also shifted the orientation of the front and back of four existing racquetball courts from west-east to east-west, thus adding a student gathering space as well as fan observation area for racquetball/squash competition.
On Monday, Jan. 23, all visitors may use the pool and racquetball courts at no charge during operating hours. Free refreshments also will be available throughout the day.
CSU-Pueblo’s National Championship Men’s Racquetball team will provide demonstrations on the new courts from 2:30-4 p.m. The CSU-Pueblo Men’s Racquetball won the 2011 USAR National Collegiate Racquetball Championships featuring nearly 240 of the best players representing 50 colleges and universities last spring. The TWolf men won in commanding fashion, winning 8 of the 9 finals in which they play, defeating runner up Oregon State University. CSU-Pueblo has won the national championship event every year but one since the University became CSU-Pueblo in 2003 and 14 national championships since 1996. The demonstration will feature Nick Montalbano (freshman, West Isup, NY) and Jansen Allen (senior, Rice, TX), two of the premiere players in the country.
