Colorado State University - Pueblo student leads fundraiser to honor cousin on June 25

PUEBLO –  A Colorado State University-Pueblo freshman hopes to raise awareness of and dollars to benefit research on the skin disease that killed her cousin. Victoria (Tori) Siguenza has organized a fundraising walk on June 25 to raise research funds for  Epidermolysis Bullosa (E.B.) in memory of her cousin Angelica Tafoya, who died in 2005 at age 12 of the disease.

All money raised at the event will go to the E.B. fund at The Children’s Hospital in Denver. The Walk-A-Thon will be held from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday, June 25 at CSU-Pueblo’s Fountain Plaza.

EB is a rare and deadly skin disease. Epidermolysis Bullosa is a group of inherited disorders in which skin blisters develop in response to minor injury. Depending on the type of Epidermolysis Bullosa, the condition can vary from minor blistering of the skin to a lethal form involving other organs. All of the different types of Epidermolysis Bullosa are generally inherited. Therefore, having a family history of the disease, and especially having a parent with it, is a risk factor.
The cost to participate is $25 per person, which covers a t-shirt, breakfast, and lunch.  Pledge sheets and donations are may be turned in at registration on the day of the event. Extra meal tickets, additional t-Shirts, other items and refreshments will be available for purchase at the event, as well as additional opportunities to donate.

Participants may register as an individual or pull together a team. Teams can consist of family members, co-workers, or friends. The event goal is to have a minimum of ONE person from each team walking at all times.
