Colorado State University - Pueblo offers iPhone summer course, new Android app
PUEBLO – This summer, Colorado State University-Pueblo will introduce two additional mobile applications as well as a summer course in the design of such applications in order to address the shortage of professionals skilled in cutting-edge areas like applications development.
The Department of Computer Information Systems will offer a six-week iPhone applications development course from May 16 through June 23, taught by Dr. Joey Cho, assistant professor of computer information systems in the Hasan School of Business. The course will help students learn basic iPhone application development process as well as create and test their own iPhone apps. This hands-on course will strengthen students’ competitiveness in the job market. A recent article published in Denver Post (http://www.denverpost.com/business/ci_17488097 ) lamented that many Colorado companies struggle finding software developers who are particularly skilled in cutting-edge areas such as mobile applications. Technology-industry experts say the shortage of highly skilled developers isn't a new phenomenon or one isolated to Colorado. But an uptick in tech hiring is making the imbalance more pronounced. To enroll or obtain more information on the course, contact Professor Cho at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Since becoming the first Colorado higher education institution to release its original iPhone mobile application in February of 2010, CSU-Pueblo has been listening to its student population who requested additional content for existing students and more format options. The University now offers twice as many apps as before, all with a new look and interaction, available in iPhone, iPad, iPod and Android operating systems.
The new smart phone apps have additional features such as polls, multi-media feeds, social-networking and campus resources. Future updates include admissions, campus tours, discussion & chat tools, and Library components, including the ability to search the entire library database.
