Colorado State University - Pueblo reading series features evening of Canadian fiction

PUEBLO – The Southern Colorado Reading Series at Colorado State University-Pueblo will host an evening of dinner and Canadian fiction next week.  Bestselling authors Nino Ricci and Steven Hayward will read at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12 in the Occhiato University Center Chameleon/Great Plains Room.

Steven Hayward, an assistant professor in the English Department at The Colorado College, was born and raised in Toronto. His first book, Buddha Stevens and Other Stories, a collection of short stories, won the Upper Canada Writers’ Craft Award and his second, The Secret Mitzvah of Lucio Burke won Italy’s Premio Grinzane Cavour Prize. His most recent book is Don’t Be Afraid. 

Nino Ricci was born in Ontario to parents from the Molise region of Italy.  His first novel, the internationally acclaimed Lives of the Saints, spent 75 weeks on the Globe and Mail‘s bestseller list and was the winner of the F.G. Bressani Prize, the Books in Canada First Novel Award.  The other books from the Lives of the Saints trilogy are In a Glass House and Testament, and all were adapted for a television miniseries starring Sophia Loren and Kris Kristofferson.  Ricci’s most recent novel is the national bestseller The Origin of Species, which earned him the Canadian Authors Association Fiction Award as well as his second Governor General’s Award for Fiction.
