2010 Homecoming activities at Colorado State University – Pueblo scheduled for next week
PUEBLO- Former and current students of Southern Colorado Junior College, Pueblo Junior College, Southern Colorado State College, the University of Southern Colorado, and Colorado State University – Pueblo are encouraged to return to campus Sept. 27-Oct. 2 for a variety of Homecoming activities, planned by the CSU-Pueblo Alumni Association and the Office of Student Activities. The theme this year is Stay True to the Red and Blue.
The Alumni Association has partnered with HARP and Angelo’s on Thursday to provide pizza, and drinks from 5-8 p.m. at $10 per person (family pack of 2 adults/2 children under 12 for $20) followed by free boat rides, featuring local jazz musician Carlos Crull. The Pueblo Symphony also will offer a special 2 for 1 admission to the Saturday night event in Hoag Hall.
Throughout the week, the Office of Student Activities will coordinate a variety of events to increase school spirit including election of Homecoming royalty, a CSU-Pueblo’s Wolf Idol competition, events that pit students against CSU-Pueblo faculty and staff, pep rally, bonfire, and parade through campus. The Classified Staff Council and the Office of External Affairs are coordinating a door decorating contest throughout campus as well.
In conjunction with Homecoming activities, the University will host the American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT), including the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall as well as The Cost of Freedom Tribute displays on the west side of campus near the Hasan Amphitheatre. Set up on the wall will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 29 with opening ceremonies scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30. All day viewing will be available on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1-2 with exhibits commemorating 9/11, Korean War, World War II, as well as a helicopter museum.
On Friday (Oct. 1), a pig roast and pep rally in the residence hall oval will feature fall athletes and coaches as well as performances by the cheer team, dance team, and the ThunderWolves marching band beginning at 6 p.m. A bonfire will begin at 7 p.m. behind the Hasan Amphitheatre.
On Saturday (Oct. 2), line up for the Homecoming Parade throughout campus begins at 11 a.m. at Massari Arena with the start of the parade scheduled for noon. Community entries are welcome, but should RSVP to Kellie Close at 549-2151. The ThunderWolf football team takes on Chadron State (NE) at 2 p.m. An alumni/community tailgate will begin at noon beneath the red tent near the stadium.
Students interested in vying for cash prizes ($200 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd) based on their vocal talents in the Wolf Idol competition should register by calling 719-549-2151. Information about the Homecoming parade and royalty competition also should direct questions to this number.
Following the game, the Alumni Association and Friends of Football will co-sponsor a post-game tailgate party. The event is free and open to the public. Food and drinks provided. The Royalty dance later that evening will begin at 8 p.m. in the Occhiato University Center Ballroom.
