CSU - Pueblo PLP Scholars to construct Box City to raise awareness of homelessness
PUEBLO – Juniors in the President Leadership Program in conjunction with students from the Engineering Department and the Office of Student Activities at Colorado State University-Pueblo will host Box City 2010 on Nov. 13 to raise awareness of the plight of homeless individuals and to gather funds and donations to assist POSADA’s efforts to help homeless individuals and families in crisis.
The overnight event will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 13 in the Residence Halls Oval at CSU-Pueblo’s campus and will continue through 6 a.m. the following day. Among activities that night, participants will create housing out of cardboard, visit with homeless youth, and sleep outside in the elements.
Although homelessness is largely invisible to most of us in Pueblo, the community has experienced a steady growth in the prevalence of homeless families. POSADA goes beyond the immediate needs of food and shelter for these individuals and families. Through comprehensive case management, they work with families to develop and implement a personal plan for success, which ultimately assists our families in their return to stable lives.
