CSU System board appoints Dr. Leon as interim president of CSU-Pueblo

DENVER-The Colorado State University System Board of Governors today approved the appointment of Dr. Julio Leon to the position of Interim President of Colorado State University-Pueblo effective November 29, 2010. Dr. Leon will serve as interim until a permanent president is named.

“Dr. Leon has been very well received on campus and within the Pueblo community,” said Joe Blake, CSU System Chancellor. “He is both gracious and enthusiastic about leading CSU-Pueblo in this interim capacity, and I have every confidence he will be able to keep CSU-Pueblo on its trajectory of excellence.”

Leon has 25 years as president of Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri.  During his tenure he led the institution to university status, doubled the enrollment to 6,000 students, and oversaw capital construction of well over $120 million.

Leon was recommended by Blake on Nov. 15 as the sole finalist for interim president.

In 1969 Leon joined Missouri Southern State University, where he was an assistant, associate and full professor of business administration for seven years. He then went on to serve as dean of the School of Business Administration, a position he held at the university for six years before being named president. He retired from Missouri Southern State University in 2007.
