2009 Homecoming activities at Colorado State University – Pueblo scheduled for Oct. 19-24
PUEBLO- Former and current students of Southern Colorado Junior College, Pueblo Junior College, Southern Colorado State College, the University of Southern Colorado, and Colorado State University – Pueblo are encouraged to return to campus Oct. 19-24 for a variety of Homecoming activities, planned by the CSU-Pueblo Alumni Association and the Office of Student Activities. The theme this year is The ThunderWolves Shine in 2009.
The Alumni Association has partnered with HARP and the Sangre de Christo Arts Center and Children’s Museum to provide free admission and boat rides during the week. Throughout the week, alumni who RSVP to 549-2858 will receive free tickets to the Sangre De Cristo Arts Center and Children’s Museum. At 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, alumni are invited to enjoy the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk Project from the newly christened HARP Thunderboat. The event includes a cash bar. Throughout the week, the Office of Student Activities will coordinate a variety of events to increase school spirit including election of Homecoming royalty, a CSU-Pueblo’s Got Talent competition, events that pit students against CSU-Pueblo faculty and staff, a music festival, pep rally, bon fire, and parade through campus. The classified staff council and the Office of External Affairs are coordinating a door decorating contest throughout campus as well.
On Friday (Oct. 23), a bon fire and pep rally near the Student Recreation Field will feature fall athletes and coaches as well as performances by the cheer team, dance team, CSU-Pueblo Soul Steppers, and the new ThunderWolves marching band beginning at 5 p.m. A pig roast along with a full night of music will follow just south of the Belmont Residence Hall as four bands will perform during the inaugural Thunder Down Under Music Fest. Bands scheduled to appear include Making Movies (Kansas City, MO), Lusitania (El Paso,TX), Mark’s Midnight Carnival Show (Pueblo, ColoradoSprings), and Dechen Hawk (Boulder, CO). The free concerts will run consecutively from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
On Saturday (Oct. 24), line up for the Homecoming Parade throughout campus begins at 11 a.m. at Massari Arena and will travel to the ThunderBowl Stadium at noon. Community entries are welcome, but should RSVP to Kellie Close at 549-2151. The ThunderWolf football team takes on Western State at 2 p.m. Contact the athletic office at 719-549-2711 for information on purchasing game tickets.
Following the game, the Alumni Association and Friends of Football will co-sponsor a post-game tailgate party featuring the band Overton Road. The event is free and open to the public. Food and drinks provided. The Royalty dance later that evening will feature DJ Reflect and refreshments.
