Leading IT expert to speak at CSU–Pueblo on Business Info Security

A leading system security expert will discuss developing a strong computer security culture as the first of four Distinguished Speaker Series hosted by the Hasan School of Business (HSB) at Colorado State University-Pueblo.

Don Brackett, a system security engineer for Northrop Grumman/IS TASC, will discuss the ever growing tide of security vulnerabilities, those who want to exploit them, and what businesses can do to protect themselves.

Brackett’s presentation, “What the Business Information Security Culture Means to YOU … and How It Ultimately Affects the Bottom Line,” addresses the dynamics of a company’s computer security culture and how it relates, impacts, or supports nearly all aspects of a technology-driven business at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 in the HSB Auditorium. Topics will include legal compliance, consumer confidence, corporate capability, and the underlying security culture – a comparison of what to do and what not to do.

Specific highlights include the following:

• Understanding the security culture’s relationship to the corporation’s objectives
• Addressing the relevant legal issues and governance
• Responding to the threat picture
• Developing a strong computer security culture
• Sustaining the security culture

As a system security engineer, Brackett has conducted numerous government-mandated security certification and accreditation efforts for the Department of Defense, the United States Air Force, and the intelligence community. As a technical training course developer and staff instructor for the TASC Learning Institute, Brackett develops information assurance (IA) training courses to support the information security needs of system security engineers, program managers, and customers. A passionate IA professional and enthusiast, he enjoys both the challenge of learning all that this relatively new security discipline involves, as well as, speaking with engineering professionals, business managers and student groups.

The event is open to the public at no charge, but because of limited space, reservations are recommended to 719-549-2142.
