CSU–Pueblo international students plan extravaganza April 11

The Colorado International Student Association (CISA) at Colorado State University-Pueblo will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its International Food and Cultural Extravaganza next month. The event will take place on Saturday, April 11 beginning at 5 p.m. in the Occhiato University Center Ballroom.

The Extravaganza is an annual tradition each spring semester just prior to graduation. The celebration has been taking place as a tribute and celebration of the University’s international student population since 1939. The campus and community are invited to attend this celebration of cultures at no charge. A $1 donation per participant will be welcomed at the door to help defray costs.

The event (as per tradition) will kick off with a buffet dinner. Everyone is encouraged to provide a covered dish of normal proportions -- something native to your country/heritage is welcomed. Entertainment and a fashion show, presenting the talents of CSU-Pueblo’s students, will conclude the event. Tables showcasing respective countries will be available for viewing and interaction, and a slide show will be shown during dinner.

The Extravaganza promotes multicultural awareness, respect, and education and provides international students the chance to educate others about their cultures and traditions. The University, in turn, is able to recognize the accomplishments of the international students and foster goodwill.

In a special prelude to the Extravaganza, the CSU-Pueblo Multicultural Council, the AA/EEO office, and the Pueblo Human Relations Commission will host a Human Rights Rally at 3:30 p.m. that day at the Fountain Plaza. The rally will feature local guest speakers, followed by a March against Hate, which will circle the campus and end at the Occhiato University Center in time for the 5 p.m. dinner. The rally and march on the theme of human rights are the beginnings of an annual event celebrating diversity, human rights, and all people and cultures.
