The Colorado State University-Pueblo Department of Music will host the second annual high school String Quartet Festival from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, February 14.
The festival is open to all Colorado high school string students who are currently in an existing chamber ensemble and provides a unique opportunity for talented high school musicians to perform chamber music under the guidance of a professional string quartet. The festival will include coaching with the Veronika String Quartet, rehearsals, and the screening of a video of a world famous string quartet. A masterclass, taught by the quartet also is scheduled.
The student chamber ensembles will perform for the public at 2:30 p.m. as part of a free concert in First Ascension Episcopal Church, 18th and Grand Ave.
This year’s participating students are from Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Rye, Canon City, and Penrose. Several of this year’s groups are returning for their second year. Students have been selected by recommendation from their music teacher or coach.
