CSU–Pueblo selects singers for home football games


Students at Colorado State University-Pueblo will be lending their vocal talents to all home football games this season as singers of the national anthem.

Alan Mills, director of bands at CSU-Pueblo, recently hosted and judged auditions of students, staff, alumni, and community members who were interested in utilizing their vocal talents to entertain game day crowds. A total of 23 individuals auditioned, while 13 of those progressed to the second round of auditions that took place at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl. The final round of auditions was judged by Jennifer Shadle-Peters and Dr. Dana Ihm, both associate professors of music at CSU-Pueblo. This round produced five finalists who were selected to sing during the Pack’s five home football games.

The five individuals chosen include Zach Friberg, a sophomore music major from Pueblo, who sang at the season opener on Sept. 6 against Oklahoma Panhandle State. Robin Holzrichter, senior music major from Pueblo, sang the anthem at the Sept. 20 game against Chadron State College.

Rachel Gramstorff, senior music major from Pueblo, will sing on Oct. 4; Brandi Halverson, 2005 Pueblo CSU-Pueblo alum, on Oct. 18; and Caroline Hunt, senior music major from Colorado Springs, on Nov. 8.

Other individuals who auditioned will sing the National Anthem during the CSU-Pueblo men’s and women’s home sports in soccer, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, and track and field. Those include Vanessa Rodriguez, freshman pre-business major from Pueblo; Allison Goss-Lara, senior music major from Pueblo; Laurie Pierce, senior mass communications major from Highlands Ranch; Terra Jackson, senior liberal studies major from Pueblo; Desiree Floyd, freshman music major from Peyton, Colo.; Precious Ellis, freshman liberal studies major from Colorado Springs; and Jenilyn Bartolo, sophomore music major from Pueblo.
