CSU–Pueblo PCC Host Making a Difference Conference Oct. 19

Pueblo Community College (PCC) and Colorado State University-Pueblo will host junior and senior high school leaders interested in making a difference as part of its inaugural PCC/CSU-Pueblo Leadership Conference.

The conference will include general information about college entry and financial aid, a panel of current college students for questions and answers, workshops that discuss leadership traits and career tracks and the ease of transfer between PCC and CSU-Pueblo.

Motivational speaker Joseph Chavez will present the keynote address that celebrates diversity. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Calif., Chavez moved to Colorado in 1980 to play college football. Upon graduation, he moved to Virginia for graduate school, then worked for CNN in Washington, D.C. He spent several years working as a political consultant before spending the last 16 years speaking to more than a half million high school kids around the country.

Attendees to the conference will be eligible for two $1000 scholarships available, one for those students who are going to attend CSU-Pueblo, and the other for students who are going to attend Pueblo Community College. The scholarships are offered on a one-time basis and will be disbursed $500 per semester for fall and spring 2008. The scholarship application must be delivered to the high school counselor by October 15. (The scholarship is non-transferable.) The selection committee will review the applications of eligible students and the winners will be announced during lunch at the leadership conference.

Students can register through their high school counselor or by calling the CSU-Pueblo, Multicultural Center at 549-2627 by October 16.
