The Colorado State University-Pueblo athletics department recently announced that student-athletes Chris Childress and Kristin Krueger were selected to attend the NCAA Division II Leadership Academy in Dallas, TX on Sept. 28 – 30, 2007. Along with Associate Athletic Director Niki Whitaker, the trio will represent CSU-Pueblo at the weekend-long academy to develop their leadership skills, become more familiar with the Division II experience, and plan for action.
The Academy engages a diverse representation of student-athletes, coaches, administrators and faculty in leadership education to enhance self-awareness and facilitate partnerships that will affect progress on campuses, within conferences, throughout Division II, and beyond the collegiate realm. The conference is provided at no cost to all institutions that are eligible to attend.
Participants will learn about, develop, and apply leadership skills, gain insight into their personal styles through self-assessment and peer feedback, become better acquainted with NCAA and Division II structures and initiatives, and work collaboratively with university leadership to develop and implement action plans that promote positive change.
Chris, a native of Lakewood, Calif., is a senior pursuing a degree in business management and is the starting forward on the men’s basketball team. As a junior transfer from Santa Ana Junior College in Santa Ana, Calif., Chris was a significant contributor to the ThunderWolves’ basketball team last season, averaging 21 minutes per game and boasting 5.8 rebounds per game.
Kristin, a native of Colorado Springs, is a senior pursuing a degree in liberal arts and is the first baseman for the women’s softball team. Kristin filled in from the bench last season, batting .333. This season, she figures to be one of the hot corners for the Pack softball team.
