After a long, hot summer, Colorado State University – Pueblo will welcome students and their families to campus Aug. 23 through Aug. 26 with three days of events guaranteed to give everyone an opportunity to get to know the University, make new friends, and to just plain enjoy themselves.
The Wolf Pack Welcome Committee, chaired by Rachel Anderson, former director of residence life and now an advisor in the First Year Student Experience Program, and including members from the Student Activities Office and the Career Center, wants in-coming students to feel at home, whether as freshman moving into BRH for the first time or returning students living off-campus.
Kicking off events is a CSU-Pueblo Welcome BBQ, Thursday, Aug 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. on the patio of the Occhiato Student Center (OUC). Live music from the local Pueblo band Martini Shot will follow at 7:30 p.m. at Fountain Plaza. Friday’s fun includes an afternoon picnic in back of Belmont Residence Hall, a happy hour at the OUC Underground – downstairs in the OUC – beginning at 4p.m, and a hypnotist in Hoag Hall from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Highlighting Saturday’s activities are outdoor games at noon on the Recreation Field, the Recreation Field ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m., a welcome dinner at 5 p.m. in the Café, a mountain bike ride with President Joseph Garcia 6:30 p.m., and a foam dance party outside of Belmont Residence Hall (BRH) from 8p.m. to midnight.
The Wolf Pack wraps up its welcome Sunday, Aug. 26 with CSU-Pueblo Day at the State Fair, which the committee hoped would be the first of many opportunities for students to learn more about the community of Pueblo.
Beginning at 11a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, an Involvement Fair will highlight and showcase student organizations as well as non-profit organizations throughout the community in an effort to encourage involvement throughout the school year.
