CSU–Pueblo School of Business hosts financial planner lecture

A vice president for American Funds will provide financial planning advice to babyboomers as part of a presentation hosted by CSU-Pueblo’s Hasan School of Business in conjunction with investment firm Smith Barney at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24 in the HSB Auditorium.

Markel’s presentation, “Getting There from Here,” will inform baby boomers that they must reinvent long-term financial planning given that life expectancies have grown dramatically in recent years. Longer life spans mean that boomers may begin to run the risk of outliving their planned retirement funds. He contends that outliving one’s money is one of the greatest risks faced by Americans today, especially with the baby boomers entering retirement.

Markel is the Senior Vice President of American Funds, where he has worked for more than 20 years. Founded in 1931, American Funds is the mutual fund division of Capital Group Companies and one of the oldest and largest mutual fund managers in the world, overseeing more than $1.4 trillion worldwide.
