Colorado State University – Pueblo SIFE Club, Swallows Academy sponsor fundraiser

The Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team at Colorado State University – Pueblo along with Ms. Archuleta’s 8th grade class at Swallows Charter Academy in Pueblo West are teaming together to sell take and bake pizzas for pick-up on Super Bowl Weekend to raise funds for both organizations.

According to SIFE advisor Michael Wakefield, students from both schools now are taking orders for large, one-topping, deli-style thin crust pizzas (sausage, pepperoni, or cheese) through January 25. Pizzas are $6 each for cheese pizzas, and $7 each for pepperoni or sausage pizzas, and may be picked up the day before the Super Bowl, on Saturday, Feb. 3, between 1 and 4 p.m. in the drive-through lane of Swallows Charter Academy, 278 S. McCulloch Blvd. Pizzas must be prepaid (cash or check – made payable to CSU-Pueblo SIFE) by Thursday, January 25, 2007. Interested persons may order pizzas by stopping at Swallows Charter Academy and ordering on or before 2:30 p.m. on January 25.

SIFE students worked with 8th graders at Swallows Academy to learn the basics about business, including marketing and operations, and to gather materials, most of which were supplied by Dave Feamster, owner of Little Caesar’s Pizza. On Feb. 3, the students will form assembly lines to create the pizzas and prepare them for distribution. The Swallows students will be raising funds for their 8th grade trip to the State Capitol in Denver scheduled in May, and the SIFE students are raising funds to pay for their trip to regional competition in Denver slated for March 27.

The Students in Free Enterprise team is a campus organization that seeks to make a difference in the community and the world by learning, applying, and teaching the principles of the free enterprise system. Other SIFE projects seek to promote financial literacy and create opportunity for SIFE members and others throughout the school and community by expanding students’ knowledge, communication skills, leadership skills, and providing networking opportunities within the university and throughout the Pueblo community.
