Vanessa Emerson and Michael Weiner - S4S (Students for Students)
Why are you interested in the position you are seeking?
I am interested in running for President of Student Government because I am passionate about addressing the disconnect between students and faculty on campus. I feel that students are unaware of the FACE&VOICE that Associated Student Government gives them, and as President I will relate to the student body by being that FACE&VOICE. I believe in a system of honor, integrity and rationality as fundamental characteristics and I see our University as an essential battleground in the “war of ideas”.
Over the past two years I have held positions in the Associated Student's Government as the Director of Public Relations and Senator of the Hasan School of Business. I want to take my involvement with the University to the next level and obtain a larger leadership role within the organization.
I have experience in leadership roles as acting President of Bold And Beautiful Educated Sister (B.A.B.E.S.) on campus, I am charged with the task of developing the focus for my organization, while motivating each member to strive to serve as an example to fellow women on campus. I take a dynamic role in generating and fostering leadership within my members and emphasize “Doing The Right Thing”. A strong positive character is what I pride myself on and promote internally.
I am a Student Ambassador and an Orientation Leader for the University. I have held positions as both the philanthropic and educational chairman of my fraternity and I am currently serving as the chair for the annual scholar retreat for the President's Leadership Program.
My Platform is : Leading Students. Respecting Students. Serving Students. Representing Students.
My desire is for students to feel comfortable enough with ASG to the point where they are approaching our representatives and sharing their vision for CSU-Pueblo. I hope to see ASG transition to an era that is less about attending meetings and holding events and more about creating long lasting changes on campus that create a positive experience for current students and make our university more appealing to prospective students.
Some of the honors/achievements I have earned are the 400 meter hurdles record for track and field at Colorado State University and also received the 2012 Leadership Award at our Student Organization Recognition Celebration.
2011 Kane Scholarship Recipient and El Pomar Scholar for the President's Leadership Program.
I participate in multiple clubs/ organizations including Associated Student Government, as the current senator for Hasan School of Business, and I am President of Bold And Beautiful Educated Sister (B.A.B.E.S.). I am also the Chief Financial Officer for ENACTUS. In addition to this I participate in Hasan School of Businesses Deans Advisory Council.
